Join us for the third annual Elbert Williams Voter Engagement Day! For 75 years, one of the most remarkable Voting Rights Activists in West Tennessee, Elbert Williams, was denied his place in American history. In 2015, with the the help of a committee led by Attorney Jim Emison and Lay Historian John Ashworth this story was thrust into modern conversations across the globe and is now a part of a special resource study led by the United States Department of the Interior National Park Service.
Created by Elbert Williams great grand-niece, Leslie McGraw, in 2022, Voter Engagement Day aims to share information and resources on how to VOTE for progress in economic, gender, and racial justice. The 2024 Theme for Voter Engagement Day is “From Silence to Justice” and will feature an exclusive interview with Alyshia Dyer, Democratic Nominee for Washtenaw County Sheriff on the topic of Restorative Justice. We will also hear from local and national treasures Karen Simpson, Desirae’ Simmons, Rosanita Ratcliff AND MORE! 9:30–11 am EST

Leslie McGraw
Leslie discovered the power of the pen in the third grade after her family moved to a new school district. Writing became a way to sort out her new surroundings and escape to fantasy landscapes. That child, and voice, has matured into a poet, writer, blogger, journalist, online content creator and editor. Leslie is a social entrepreneur with a demonstrated commitment to community. She is an active community member in Washtenaw County (Michigan) with expertise in social media marketing and content management systems, volunteer coordination and writing and 19 years of experience in the areas of online community management, training, leadership development, and social networking. She is interested in facilitating connection with both community residents and businesses. Through this work, the economy of the community is improved and the organizations are financially successful. Her main mode of advocacy and online community, however, is through writing.
