Honoring 60 Years of Peace, Justice, and Community: ICPJ Celebrates a Milestone

This year marks a powerful milestone: 60 years of community-rooted activism, education, and solidarity from the Interfaith Council for Peace and Justice (ICPJ). Since 1965, ICPJ has been a hub for people across Washtenaw County and beyond who believe in building a more just and peaceful world—together. As a board member and leader of the VOTE Caucus, I am elated to share a bit of what I have been working on with our collaborations.

A Legacy of Collective Action
Founded during the height of the civil rights movement and the Vietnam War, ICPJ has long served as a moral compass and mobilizing force. From opposing war and nuclear weapons in the 1970s, to standing for immigrant rights, environmental justice, racial equity, and police accountability in recent decades, ICPJ has continued to evolve while staying true to its interfaith and intergenerational roots.
This 60th anniversary is not only a chance to reflect on the past but also to recommit to action in the present—and to dream forward.
Celebrating with Community
On Saturday, June 28, 2025 ICPJ will host a 60th Anniversary Gathering at:

Come enjoy fun, food, souvenirs, storytelling, and a space to connect with longtime members, new friends, and local peacebuilders. We’ll honor the generations of grassroots leaders who shaped this work—and lift up the youth and new movements carrying it forward.

As ICPJ celebrates six decades of impact, we know the work is far from over. With rising threats to democracy, climate, and human rights, we continue to ask:

Leslie McGraw
Leslie discovered the power of the pen in the third grade after her family moved to a new school district. Writing became a way to sort out her new surroundings and escape to fantasy landscapes. That child, and voice, has matured into a poet, writer, blogger, journalist, online content creator and editor. Leslie is a social entrepreneur with a demonstrated commitment to community. She is an active community member in Washtenaw County (Michigan) with expertise in social media marketing and content management systems, volunteer coordination and writing and 19 years of experience in the areas of online community management, training, leadership development, and social networking. She is interested in facilitating connection with both community residents and businesses. Through this work, the economy of the community is improved and the organizations are financially successful. Her main mode of advocacy and online community, however, is through writing.
